Check any Indian company's registration status for free with MCA Master Data
Use the Ministry of Corporate Affairs' free master data lookup to verify a counterparty's existence, status, directors and charges.
What this guide covers
Every company and LLP registered in India appears in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) database. The Master Data lookup is free and needs no account and shows whether a counterparty exists, its status (Active, Strike Off, Under Liquidation), incorporation date, registered office, capital, current directors with their DIN, registered charges, and whether annual filings are up to date.
Steps
- Open MCA Master Data.
- Choose “Company/LLP Master Data” and enter part of the name or the CIN. Use the legal name from the counterparty’s invoice or GST certificate.
- Pick the right company from the list; check state and year of incorporation, since similar names are common.
- Confirm Company Status is Active and the last AGM / balance sheet date is within the past year.
- Check “Director/Signatory Details” against the people you are dealing with.
- Review “Charges” for secured borrowings.
- “View Public Documents” lets you buy past filings (about INR 100 each) with an MCA account.
Reading the result
- Strike Off: removed or being removed from the register. Do not contract.
- Dormant: inactive company.
- Filings two or more years overdue signal weak compliance or a stopped business.
- A director marked Disqualified has defaulted on filings elsewhere.
For financial statements and litigation, pair this with commercial services such as Tofler or Zaubacorp.
